For my first 6 to 9 months, a $100 month would be a great month for me. And with all the time I was spending blogging, trying to get paid for surveys, and trying different ways to make money, a $100 was probably the same as $1.00 an hour. I was clueless. I made some money at CashCrate and sites like it but I knew that referring people was the best way to make money but I didn’t know how to get the traffic.

Now days there are all sorts of other diversions and time wasters that weren’t there when I started. You have Facebook and now the whole Internet world trying to tell you that you should be making money on Twitter. In my opinion that is bullshit and people are sheep. Of course some people are making money but the liklihood you can is very low.

I didn’t make money for my first 6 months because I didn’t understand that I needed targeted traffic and not just any traffic. If you want to make money you need to sell something and then find the people who are looking to buy what you are selling. If you are selling computers online, you need to find people who are looking to buy computers. Whatever you are selling, you need to find people that are interested in specifically what you are trying to sell.

If you are trying to make money with CashCrate referrals, you need to find people who are LOOKING for ways to make money. Period. Any other type of person is NOT going to convert. Having lots of followers on Twitter is NOT GOING TO CONVERT INTO CASHCRATE REFERRALS. Period again.

You hear that social media is the wave of the future and that you should be all over it making money.  You hear about traffic exchanges and all sorts of other things to get more traffic to your blogs. If only you had traffic! But until you learn how to get TARGETED TRAFFIC, you won’t make a dime.

Keep chasing that social media and hanging around the forums hoping for the big secret. It won’t get you anywhere but you can keep doing it. Most of what you really need to know is right here on this blog if you will just take the time to read it.

I know that many banners you see are cool looking and some they might even look good on your blog. How can people not click them, you ask? They look so…so…click-able. The fact is though, that there is something called banner blindness and it is very, very real.

If you are hawking any of the online surveys for money sites on your blog, you are probably tempted to put up the banners. If you ever get a blog with traffic you might even be able to sell the ad space. But data has always shown that banner ads are some of the worst converting methods of getting affiliate sales. People who pay for these banners are usually just giving their money away.

Once you get to the Silver referral level with CashCrate, you will have access to “CashCrate Pro” which has some additional tools to help you to create multiple referral links, monitor conversion rates, and it shows clicks and signups. What you can do is set up a special link for each of your banners and you can prove to yourself how useless they are. So then, if banners don’t work for getting referrals, how do some people get so many? Besides getting laser targeted traffic to their blogs (this means people who want to make money or need money), they get people to sign up for CashCrate through the texlinks in the sentences. People are much more willing to click text links than they are banners which they often totally ignore.

If you don’t believe this then I suggest you check it out on your own blog. Set up your banners so they have one or more of the custom links in CashCrate Pro. Then, set your text links to some of the other custom links and compare which does better. You will find that although your banners look great, they perform very, very poorly.

Another thing is to pay attention to your own habits online. Chances are that you click a lot more text links than you do banners. Most people totally ignore all banners just like they do while they are walking down the street. You know they are there but you also know they are an advertisement so you ignore them.

One of the things lacking in so many of the paid online surveys blogs that people create is any sort of a legitimate call to action. What most people do is copy and paste all the same stuff that is on the CashCrate site like the FAQ’s and such Then the blog owner says “sign up under me” or “lets make money together” or “sign up now!” or some other stupid, corny phrase that looks like a 10 year old made up.

There is no originality at all on 90% of these blogs. Just copying and pasting what is already on CashCrate is going to get you nowhere if you are really trying to make referrals. Some people take the next step and put up pictures of their latest checks and this is definitely a good move. You see, a copy of your check (and not one stolen from the Internet) is the first step you need to show that you are making money and that CashCrate is not a scam.

Tell Your Readers A Story

When a visitor comes to your site, you need to tell them a story and the more personal it is the better. You need to give them a reason why they should sign up and what better reason is there than the chance to make money. Show them the money you are making and tell them how they can make money too. You have to be believable and you can’t sound like a dumb 10 year old kid who just slapped up his first web site.

Video Works Better Than Pictures

Pictures of your check work great but video works better. In fact, if done right, you can even use video to get more people to your blogs and then have a better chance of them signing up.
